TPL & the Institute for Creative Exchange, Americas Present: Alberto Ruy Sánchez and Literature Beyond the Genre Novelist, essayist, poet, editor and director of celebrated magazine, Artes de México, Alberto Ruy Sánchez is considered one of Latin America’s most important literary figures. Their work has been awarded and praised internationally by authors such as Octavio Paz, Juan Rulfo, Severo Sarduy, Alberto Manguel and Claude Michel Cluny. With the publication of The Names of the Air, with which he won the prestigious Xavier Villaurrutia Award, he created a personal universe full of sensuality that would result in the Quintet of Mogador. Ruy Sánchez’s work masterfully mixes prose and poetry, the spaces that connect Morocco and Mexico, as well as memory and invention. His latest book, The Dreams of the Serpent is a reflection on memory, the passage of time and history. Alberto Ruy Sánchez joins host Salvador Alanis to discuss their extraordinary career sparked through duality, remembrance and creative conception. Note: This event is in Spanish with English subtitles.
